.P.S. College, Patna came to existence in 1960 fulfilling the above lines of a poem by the great Rabindra Nath Tagore. The College is located on the road heading towards Postal park from Chiraiyatand over bridge. The College is scintillating like an illuminated star on the educational horizon of the State of Bihar.

The College was established to perpetuate the memory of late Thakur Prasad Singh of Barahiya (Bihar) .The College could be established in the State Capital due to the great inspiration of late Dr.Shri Krishna Singh the illustratious and first Chief Minister of Bihar. Since its inception the College was successful in having the guiding force of Sri Mahesh Prasad Singh .It was his inspiration to have a plot of two acres purchased on 06.09.1963 Sri Ratneshwar Prasad Singh till his death kept helping the College financially and by other means.

This college was affiliated to Bihar University, Muzzaffarpur in 1960 and later on after the establishment of Magadh University, Bodh Gaya got affiliated to it in 1962. The college was made a constituent unit of Magadh University, Bodh Gaya by the Government of Bihar in 1977 until February, 2018. At present it is an outstanding unit of Patliputra University, Patna, since March 2018.

The College in the present shape had been the outcome of untiring efforts and blessing of Late Dr. Dukkhan Ram (V.C. Bihar University) Justice B.N. Rai (V.C. Patna University) and Dr. K.K. Dutta (V.C. Magadh University). During its journey the college has the privilege of getting the all out support of great philanthropists to name a few are -Late Prof. P.N. Sharma ,Late Chintaharan Singh ,Sri Viajay Shankar Dubey ,Late Shyam Nandan Mishra ,Prof. Bachoo Sinha ,Late (Prof. ) P. Dayal ,Late Prof. Jabbar Hussain ,Prof K.K.Mandal .It was Dr Ram Raj Singh the then Education Minister, Bihar whose initiative brought Science teaching in the College. The foundation stone of the building was laid in1964 by the august hands of Late Stayendra Narayan Sinha ,the than Education Minister ,Bihar.

Dr. Kuteshwar Prasad Sinha had been the founder Principal of the College. The College made all round progress under his dynamic leadership and towering personality .During his tenure as Principal, the College created a mile stone by celebrating its Silver Jubilee in 1987 Since then, a number of Principals/Professors In charge have contributed their might in enhancing its prestige and glory.The College while preserving the moral and ethical values has been marching ahead on the path of development and progress. The journey has been continuing.

The college is spread over an area of 2.1 acres with 2 teaching blocks comprising a total covered area of approx. 6100 sq.m. The College has sufficient number of class rooms, lecture theatres, laboratory halls, reading rooms, conference halls.

Conference halls, class rooms and labs are well furnished with necessary furniture and equipment. The College has adequate facilities for indoor games for outdoor sports activities, different playground are hired. Necessary civic amenities, wash room, pure drinking water & cooler, are available in all the building blocks.

The Central Library has been upgraded to provide reading hall facilities to girls, boys and teachers separately. Internet facility is available for all the faculty, staff and students on the college campus through open wi-fi networking.

The College tries its best to provide support for retention of students, quality teaching and higher success rate. Most of the students obtain First Class at Degree and PG examinations. Students of this college are preferred in admission at higher level. Reservation policy of the State Govt. is strictly followed. Special classes are arranged for sent up students. Pass percentage during the last four years have been within the range of 80-90% in different faculties.

Placement Cell, Coaching Centre and Counselling Centre have been playing effective role in motivating and guiding students to better learning and achieving high success rate in their academic career.

Students are involved in various cultural and sports activities. Students of this College represented the University in State level annual Tarang festival organized by different Universities of the State and games & sports competitions. During the last four years, girls and boys of this college achieved success in 6 events of Inter College/Inter University and National competitions.

This College is fortunate to have got dynamic Principals consecutively during the last several decades. The present Principal of the College is a visionary, dynamic and academic person. He takes initiatives for all-round development of the College. He has acted on different statutory bodies of the University. He has worked as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor also. The present Principal has also played an active role in introducing various new courses and developing the infrastructure of this College to fine tune the academic environment. The Principal is the chief executive of the College. He has tried to develop participatory management by involving Heads, faculty members, staff and students towards developing the institution in different spheres. The Heads of the Departments hold meeting of departmental council at regular intervals. The Principal remains in regular contact and discussion with the Heads. As per requisition from different departments, the Principal orders for provision of funds and facilities to the departments.

Various committees function under the chairmanship of the Principal. IQAC gives suggestions for quality improvement. The Bursar monitors the financial aspects of the college. The Proctorial Board maintains discipline on the campus and attends to the grievances and problems of students.

E-administration has been introduced to speed up the work performance. E-learning Centre is being developed to provide teaching presentations to faculty members on different subjects. Old records have been digitized for preservation. Faculty and students have been provided free internet connectivity through wi-fi on the campus.

The college is making arrangements for developing a learner centric environment conducive for quality education. Interdisciplinary studies, such as Bio-tech, BCA and BBM course, have been introduced and their syllabi were designed to meet the contemporary challenges in higher education.

As a recognition to the present setup and status of the College, the NAAC has awarded B-Grade (CGPA-2.57) to it.
